Early Life
Kong Qui, commonly know as "Confucius," was born in 551 b.c. in Zou, Lu State. His father was Kong He, commonly known as Shuliang. He was a Military officer. His mother was Yan Zengzai. Kong He died when Confucius was 3, leaving his wife to raise Confucius by herself in poverty.
Confucius was born into the Shi Class, which lies between the aristocrats ans the common people. At a young age, he worked as a shepard, cowherd, clerk, and book-keeper. When his mother died when he was 23, he is said to have mourned for three years.

Marriage
Confucius married Qiguan at age 19. One year later, she gave birth to Li, their first child. Throughout the rest of their lives, Confucius and Qiguan had two daughters, whose names are unknown.
