Confucius also taught that humans had relationships naturally. The five major relationships were ruler and subject, father and son, older sibling and younger sibling, husband and wife, and senior friend and junior friend. Each relationship has one superior person. Confucius put much emphasis on how the people in these relationships should act. The one below should respect and obey the one above. The one above should not mistreat the person below...or the power he had over the person below. Confucius taught that each and every person had a place in society. Each place in society, he said, had certain duties that came with it. If each person understood and accepted his place in society and the responsibilities that came with it, society would be mastered.
