After Confucius died, his hometown Qufu became a place of devotion and remembrance. It is still a major place for tourism. People go there to visit his graves and temples. In Pan-China culture, many people put Buddha, Laozi, and Confucius together, so there are many temples dedicated to them, but temples dedicated to just Confucius are used in Confucianist ceremonies.
The Chinese have a tradition to celebrate a spectacular ceremony for Confucius at his memorial on the date of his birth. This holiday is not official, but it is still printed on all the calendars, such as Father's day in the west. |
